Do candidates pay a fee to register with Wickenden Associates?
No. As a retained search firm, Wickenden Associates represents schools, not candidates. At the same time, we are always eager to make the acquaintance of current and aspiring independent school leaders. Our database currently includes information about more than 12,000 sources and candidates — and we would be delighted to add you to that list!

What should I do if I am interested in one or more of your current searches?
Your first step should be to request or download our Opportunity Statement from the Searches in Progress page of our website. The back page of each Opportunity Statement will give you information about the lead consultant(s), the application deadline, and the application process.

Can I speak with the consultant for a specific search?
Absolutely! We are eager to learn more about you and your leadership aspirations. You can reach any of the consultants by calling 609 683 1355 or via the emails included on the back page of the Opportunity Statement. Particularly if you are new to Wickenden Associates, it is best if you contact us well before the application deadline.

Why do you request contact information for three references at this early stage in the process?

Rest assured, we never contact references without first securing the candidate’s permission. Because we know so many leaders in the independent school world, just reviewing your list of references may provide us with valuable information about you. Typically, if we are interested in presenting your credentials to a search committee, we will seek your permission to conduct one preliminary reference. If you are a finalist in one of our searches, we will conduct references with at least five professional colleagues of yours, all with your knowledge.

What if I am interested in pursuing leadership opportunities in independent schools but am not necessarily interested in applying for any of your current searches?
Please email a copy of your resume to searches@wickenden.com, along with a brief note telling us about your leadership aspirations, particular interests, geographical limitations, etc. We will add you to our database and contact you about opportunities that might be a good fit. A confidential conversation with one of our search consultants will help us to know you better, so please don’t hesitate to call us at 609 683 1355.

How else can I introduce myself to you?
Each year, we conduct in-person, informational interviews with scores of candidates, often at our Princeton offices but also during the annual NAIS conference and during our travels to schools around the country. If you are interested in scheduling an interview, please call us at 609 683 1355.
