James W. Wickenden, President |

Wickenden
Associates was founded in 1986 by
James
W. Wickenden, Ed.D., a
former Dean of Admission at Princeton University whose lifelong involvement with independent schools began at Tabor
Academy in Marion, MA, where his father served as Headmaster for 34 years. Jim graduated from Tabor, received his undergraduate degree from
Princeton University in 1961, then served as a Naval Officer for two years.
While serving as the Assistant Director of Admission at Princeton University,
Jim earned a master's degree from Rutgers University in Education Counseling.
In 1968, Jim moved to Harvard University, where he worked as Director of
the Office for Graduate and Career Plans and completed a second master's
degree, this one in General Purposes of Education from Harvard University,
as well as a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Boston
University.
As Dean of Admission at Princeton University from 1978 to
1983, Jim had the opportunity to visit hundreds of independent
schools and work with many independent school educators, experiences that
have served him well in his consulting work. Over the past two decades,
Jim has served on the Boards of a number of independent schools, including
Tabor Academy, Dana Hall School, Beaver Country Day School, Fountain Valley
School, The Dalton School, and Princeton Day School, as well as on the Secondary
School Admissions Test Board.
